Private Career College Requirements
If your program is subject to the requirements of the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005, the CRPO recognition process can serve to fulfill the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MCTU) requirements related to review by a subject matter and adult education expert.
The CRPO process for recognizing education and training programs has been reviewed by the MCTU and deemed to satisfy their requirements for private career college (PCC) registration related to assessment by subject matter and adult education expert assessments. This means that programs that are subject to the PCC registration requirements can request a letter from CRPO to submit as part of their application for registration with the MCTU.
Applicants who are required by MCTU to register as a private career college will need to provide a number of documents in addition to the materials required by CRPO for program recognition. A full list of those documents and instructions for submitting them is available here.
Applicants should be aware of the following:
- While some education and training programs will be required by MCTU to register as PCCs, the CRPO has no role in making this determination or enforcing the requirement. CRPO’s process and requirements for program recognition have not changed. Specifically:
- CRPO does not require any education program to be recognized; this process is still entirely voluntary
- Individual applicants who are not enrolled in or a graduate of a Recognized program will still be able to have their education assessed to determine if it satisfies education requirements for registration by submitting a non-recognized program application.
- program review will still be carried out by a third-party assessor and applications submitted to CRPO will only be processed if they are complete.
CRPO will continue to accept and process program recognition applications on a first come, first served basis. Currently, the review process takes approximately 3 months from the date of receipt of a completed submission, though this could be longer if the volume of applications increases significantly. Education and training programs that are subject to the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005, are encouraged to allow sufficient time for the review process to be completed in order to be able to submit confirmation of recognized status for their PCC application.
